NEW YORK: NBC has hired Emily Passer, director of communications at Quartz, as director of digital communications for NBC News and MSNBC.
Passer told PRWeek that she started the position Tuesday and will be based in New York. It was not immediately clear who she is reporting to or replacing in the role.
As part of Passer’s remit, she will be responsible for PR, communications strategy, and media relations for NBC's digital platforms, including NBCNews.com, MSNBC.com, BreakingNews.com, and Today.com, along with other websites and apps.
Additionally, Passer will direct promotion of digital content and work with digital leaders of NBC News on PR strategy, according to a post for the position on LinkedIn.
"I decided to join NBC because I'm inspired by their continued investment in digital and their increased emphasis on collaboration between the programming and digital platforms," Passer told PRWeek.
Passer worked as director of communications for almost three years at Quartz. Prior to that, she was a communications executive at the Financial Times. She worked briefly in the agency world at FleishmanHillard and began her career at the Asia Society, according to her LinkedIn profile.
