Watch: GTA gets a virtual pride festival ahead of Stockholm parade

The organisers of this month's Stockholm Pride Festival have released an unofficial add-on for PC players of Grand Theft Auto V that allows gamers to create a virtual pride parade in the game's fictional setting of Los Santos.

The idea was brought to life by Swedish creative agency Garbergs, with the help of GTA V enthusiasts. The agency has also handled PR and activation.

"This has been an unorthodox process in every sense of the word. We came up with this idea over a year ago, but unfortunately it wasn’t doable in terms of technical knowledge. We searched in gaming forums until we found some devoted people and a couple of months ago, suddenly our scripting genius JulioNiB had a breakthrough," said Sedir Ajeenah, a creative at Garbergs.

The annual Stockholm Pride Festival, this year taking place on 25-31 July, is set to be the largest celebration of LGBT rights in Scandinavia, the organisers say. Last year more than 60,000 people participated and 600,000 followed the parade on the streets.

The modification is free to download for PC users.
