Following the UK's decision to leave the EU, group MD Laurna Woods said the firm wanted to "control our own destiny instead of waiting to see what happens when the UK pulls up the drawbridge on Europe".
She said: "We intend to focus on English-speaking countries but we are not ruling out targeting countries with strong economies like Germany." Beattie intends opening four offices in Canada.
The firm's first office will be in Toronto, led by Jessica McAndrew. Toronto-born, she joined the agency at the start of the year having previously worked for UK agencies Peach Digital, Frame Digital and most recently The BIG Partnership.
The company, whose clients have included Specsavers, the fashion brand La Redoute and supermarket Iceland, will then look to Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver, it said.
"We chose Canada because it is a dynamic, forward-thinking country with a vibrant creative community. We already have a number of international clients that operate across North America and as well as targeting new brands, we will be looking to secure work in Canada from existing clients," Woods said.
Beattie has identified premises in Toronto, and is soon to launch its website for the Canadian market.
