At the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, communications, and media stands Caryn Marooney. Unsurprisingly, she’s directing traffic.
In 1997, during the clamor of Web 1.0, Caryn cofounded The OutCast Agency, which she helped build into Silicon Valley’s highest-octane PR firm. Caryn sold OutCast and joined the growing team at Facebook to lead technology comms. She built the unit.
Today, her role as VP of communications has expanded to include overseeing the entire portfolio of communications for all of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. Put another way, she directs comms for the world’s most innovative — and most used — comms platforms. That’s impressive enough. However, what’s most impressive is how she does it.
Though she’s a native of New York, you would never guess it. Her demeanor is pure California. She is exceedingly friendly and always has time for people. It’s probably what she’s best known for. Nonetheless, it’s her laser focus on teamwork, the mission at hand, and flawless execution that consistently sets her apart. All of this has turned her teams and former colleagues into loyal friends. I’m privileged to be one of them.
