"Dave is very thoughtful and articulate about communications."
"He is a kind person — a generous and engaged leader."
"Dave is a great role model and well-respected colleague."
These are just a few descriptions of Dave Samson by those who know him. As the current chairman of the Arthur W. Page Society, he is helping lead our profession, as well as paving the way forward for the next generation of chief communications officers.
In his words: "There are few communicators whose jobs are the same as they were five years ago, and none will be the same five years out."
Dave understands the challenges of being in communications today, but, more importantly, he is engaging the industry as major trends reshape our profession: demographic workforce shifts, data analytics, increased stakeholder empowerment, and the need for greater global orientation in a flattened world.
As GM of public affairs at Chevron since 2004, Dave has had an immeasurable influence on the company and his team, known as much for being a smart business executive as a visionary and for bringing others along with him. As 2015 recipient of the Plank Center mentoring award, Dave said: "I want to know I had a positive impact on those with whom I had a chance to work and interact. I want people to feel I created an environment that allowed them to grow and prosper."
