Wheeler, who was most recently head of global comms at online ticket retailer Viagogo, began working with THRSXTY on a consultancy basis in January and has since been made CEO, with Viagogo a client.
Wheeler (right) has already made significant changes at the agency, whose clients include fashion brand Lacoste, clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters, water brand Evian and tequila brand Patron. He told PRWeek that nine of THRSXTY’s 15 employees have left since his involvement and 10 new staff members introduced.
The events production department has also been bolstered with the addition of a head of production and other production staff.
Wheeler said the agency is on target to grow fee income from about £1m to around £1.7m this year.
THRSXTY was acquired by London-based Exposure about six years ago. It sits in a separate building opposite Exposure’s office in Little Portland Street.
"The business looked like it had such great potential that I accepted the role of chief executive," Wheeler said.
"While having done well and been profitable, it needed new experience and energy."
Wheeler was at Freuds for almost 18 years, leaving in 2012.
