DIARY: Plymouth college launches own PR magazine

Plymouth's College of St Mark and St John last week launched Behind the Spin, a magazine to 'bridge the gap between universities and PR practitioners'.

Copies of issue one - themed around last year's foot-and-mouth outbreak - have now landed on the desks of '300 selected practitioners'.

Editor John Hitchins, a senior lecturer, says the mag is the 'first serious attempt' to produce a 'proper magazine' on PR by a British university.

The first issue was funded by the college, but letters are being sent to PR firms asking for support with future issues.

A page highlighting bad practice resorts to Private Eye's tired 'PRWeak' gag - using a font suspiciously similar to that used in the industry's best-known publication. 'Well, we couldn't plunder your proper title,' Hitchins correctly admits.
