WASHINGTON: Vrge Strategies has hired Emily Pierce, a former deputy director of public affairs in the Justice Department, as SVP, it said Friday morning.

She will advise clients on legal, policy, antirust, and homeland security issues.

Pierce was previously acting director of public affairs and principal deputy director in the Justice Department until she joined Vrge last month, according to her LinkedIn profile. The firm noted in a statement that she advised Attorneys General Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch and other department leaders on media strategy and engagement and was responsible for explaining its policies and actions to the press. Pierce also managed the department’s strategic communications on financial fraud, mergers and antitrust violations, criminal justice reform, and encryption and surveillance.

Prior, she was a journalist for two decades including stints at Roll Call, Congressional Quarterly, and the Washington Blade.

Vrge, a Next Fifteen agency, rebranded and relaunched last September, led by partners Josh Zecher, Mark Blafkin, Scott Gerber, and Tom Galvin with offices in Washington, D.C., Seattle, and San Francisco. It also operates the Vrge Analytics research and polling unit. The firm was previously known as 463 Communications.
