Agencies bid for Malvern Springs consumer work

Coca-Cola is pitching the six-figure consumer PR work for its Malvern Springs mineral water brand.

The appointment of an agency will be the first time Coca-Cola has taken on external help for the brand it acquired as part of its takeover of Schweppes three years ago.

Director of comms Andrew Coker said the effort to recruit an agency was part of a concerted promotional drive for the brand this year.

Coker said he expected the pitch process for the brand to conclude 'within weeks'.

He confirmed the company has been looking at 'a number of agencies', but refused to be drawn on whether a pitchlist has been finalised.

In 1998 Malvern Springs was affected by a benzene contamination scare at the Terra Nitrogen plant in Bristol (PRWeek, 12 June 1998).

Other consumer PR work for the Schweppes brands is handled by Henry's House, whose brief encompasses the Schweppes-branded lines in what was billed last autumn as an effort to relaunch the products in 'agenda-setting metropolitan bars' (PRWeek, 2 November 2001).
