NEW YORK: Financial and strategic comms agency EM has opened an office in New York in an effort to plant its flag in the main financial center of North America.

It also opened the doors to a Hong Kong office last September.

The agency, which specializes in Russia and other emerging markets, is headquartered in London with another office in Moscow. The New York office will initially be staffed by Thomas Kiehn and Sergii Pershyn. Kiehn is a director at EM, according to his LinkedIn profile, and previously worked on the Moscow team, according to his biography on the firm’s website. Both joined the agency in 2012. Supporting EM’s push into North America is Quinn Martin, who has served as a senior consultant to the firm since 2014.

"Despite the current political environment, North America continues to be an important destination for our core client base, with around 25% of Russian shares still held by U.S. and Canadian investors," said CEO Tom Blackwell, in a statement. "Establishing a presence in New York should further reinforce our dominant position in the Russian market."

He added in the statement that the firm has seen revenue growth in Russia at a yearly average of 30% since 2010, going from "zero to close to 40% market share."

Prior to a mid-2013 rebranding, the firm was known as M:Communications.
