NEW YORK: MSLGroup has promoted Stephanie Smith to global chief client and development officer, a new position at the agency.
She was previously North American chief editorial officer. Smith will report to Guillaume Herbette, global CEO, and will be based in the agency’s New York office. She will work with the agency’s global clients and with new business teams at its sister organizations under Publicis Groupe to grow business.
"There’s an abundance of opportunity," Smith said. "With our new structure, which emphasizes collaboration and partnership, our resources have grown exponentially, and it has allowed us to bring in new brands and a diversity of work."
She will continue to lead the agency’s Netflix account. In a statement, the firm credited her with growing its relationship with the streaming service from a project-based collaboration into a global account. Early this year, MSLGroup worked with the company on its launch in 130 countries.
"In the past year or so, I have been working to expand the Netflix business and working with them in a number of different markets, which gave me the foundation for this new role," Smith said.
Smith joined MSLGroup in 2004 as director of media relations, eventually taking on the roles of VP of media relations, SVP and director of broadcast media and services, and eventually North American director of media relations and chief editorial officer. Prior to MSL, she worked for 10 years as a producer at ABC News.
MSL has 100 offices around the world, including 15 in the U.S., 1 in the U.K., and 32 in Asia-Pacific.
At the start of this year, Publicis Groupe began to restructure its business by breaking down its disciplines into four solutions hubs with each led by a chief client officer. MSLGroup is housed within the Publicis Communications group, which also contains Publicis Media, Nurun, Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, BBH, and Marcel, among other shops.
