NEW YORK: Omnicom PR Group has acquired healthcare firm Rabin Martin, the holding company said Monday morning.

It is the first acquisition for the group of PR agencies under Omnicom, which was formed in February.

Rabin Martin CEO Jeffrey Sturchio will continue to lead the shop alongside MD and partner Rebecca Hoppy and partner Kate Schachern. Sturchio, who will report to Omnicom PR Group CEO Karen van Bergen, said the firm will remain a standalone agency. It lists 41 staffers on its website.

"Omnicom has a wide range of capabilities that we wouldn't have been able to match on our own," he said. "It was clear that Omnicom understood our value and saw the potential for synergy."

Van Bergen added that strategic acquisition was a main focus for the umbrella group when it was formed.

"It's a great opportunity to grow together and a testament to our focus on strategic acquisition," she said. "Some of our agencies have worked together with [Rabin Martin's] team before; there's a great cultural fit and complementary offering."

Rabin Martin's client list includes pharma companies such as Bayer, Novartis, and Pfizer, nonprofits and foundations including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and consumer healthcare companies such as Johnson & Johnson. The firm is headquartered in New York with offices in Los Angeles, London, and Geneva.

Omnicom set up the PR umbrella group in February, putting former Porter Novelli CEO van Bergen in charge of the unit, reporting to DAS Group of Companies chairman and CEO Dale Adams. The top executives at the holding company’s PR firms, such as Ketchum, FleishmanHillard, and Porter Novelli, report to van Bergen.

The holding company realigned its healthcare agencies the same month within the Omnicom Health Group. Earlier this month, Omnicom Health Group agreed to acquire BioPharm Communications, a New Hope, Pennsylvania-based healthcare shop with 57 employees.
