Just Eat takes away McDonald's PR manager as first corporate comms chief

Just Eat has appointed Joanna de Koning from McDonald's to be its first head of corporate comms.

De Koning, who takes up the new global role on 31 May, is currently senior manager, comms, Europe at McDonald’s where she has led external comms for the past three years.

At Just Eat, Oxford-educated De Koning will lead the delivery of the online takeaway company’s brand reputation strategy, financial comms and corporate responsibility programme.

De Koning will work closely with the company’s head of investor relations as well as its corporate PR agency, Brunswick, to deliver corporate and financial comms.

The firm operates in 13 markets - the UK, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and eight other European countries - and made revenue of £247.6m ($356.3m) on 96 million orders in 2015, up from 61 million orders in 2014. It was founded in Denmark in 2001.

Before McDonald’s, De Koning worked in corporate comms at Fishburn Hedges, which has since merged into FleishmanHillard Fishburn, for nine years, working on accounts including Barclays and Nestlé.

Just Eat appointed Brunswick to assist with its listing on the London Stock Exchange two years ago, while UK agency Mission was appointed by Just Eat 18 months ago to provide consumer and trade PR, as well as experiential.
