US agency's EU referendum work
Mercury, a US public affairs firm with 18 offices including a five-person London base, has been appointed by pro-'remain' group The European Movement UK. Mercury will offer digital, PR and grassroots engagement support to the group ahead of 23 June's EU referendum. The movement is one of the groups supporting principal 'remain' campaign Stronger In. Mercury's work is led by senior vice-president Eva Barboni and MD Alex Spillius. Both are London-based.
Weebly selects W
Silicon Valley-based website building platform Weebly has appointed W to provide UK comms support as it looks to drive sign-up and usage. Weebly has two million UK users and 30 million globally, and is tipped by some to hit $1bn valuation in 2016. It is advised by Astrsk PR in the US. W also won a major account with the supermarket Lidl in February.
Mongoose acquires Generate
Mongoose Sports & Entertainment, part of the 13-agency Mission Marketing Group, has acquired Generate Sponsorship to form a single, integrated sponsorship agency. Both agencies are London-based but Mongoose also has a Singapore office. Clients of the new, combined agency include Champagne Lanson, Thomson Reuters, Rugby Europe and England Golf. Generate managing partners Rupert Pratt and Andy Muggleton remain with the firm.
GLR to launch mortgage lender
GLR Public Relations has been appointed to handle PR for The Mortgage Lender – a new specialist lender that will enter the UK residential mortgage market in the coming weeks. The Yorkshire PR agency has been selected to develop and deliver PR and social media programmes for the new lender.
Speed wins Bissell brief
Carpet cleaning and vacuum cleaner retailer Bissell has taken on Speed Communications to manage its UK brand comms, and "educate consumers on the importance of carpet cleaning", a Speed press release said.
