Intel and Delta are among the companies working toward pay equity that took to Twitter on Tuesday to show support for Equal Pay Day.
The National Committee on Pay Equity launched Equal Pay Day in 1996 to call attention to the wage gap between men and women. On average, women make 79 cents for every dollar a man earns. April 12 symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year, according to the committee’s website.
Along with brands, organizations called attention to pay inequality on social media on Tuesday. Additionally, President Barack Obama named a new national monument in honor of Equal Pay Day: the Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument, the original headquarters of the National Woman's Party.
