Ogilvy PR has announced the appointment of Howard Jones as general manager of its Hong Kong operations, effective immediately.
The role is a newly created position, intended to "further enhance the management infrastructure" in Ogilvy PR Hong Kong and will see Jones report directly to managing director Clara Shek.
In this new role, Jones will be tasked with driving operational excellence and talent development.
He was most recently director of technology and innovation and will remain as director of the agency’s technology practice, overseeing its operations and clients, which include Huawei, Intel, LG and Oracle.
In addition Azwar Ghazali, who is currently director of client services at Ogilvy PR Singapore, will be relocating to Hong Kong next month to assume a senior client management position within the firm’s technology practice.
Shek said that since taking up the leadership of the technology practice 17 months ago, Jones, who has more than three decades’ experience spanning journalism and communications roles, has contributed over 50 percent growth.
"Howard commands industry respect for his knowledge and counsel, and has the ability to rapidly develop trust with clients and colleagues," she added.
"With strong journalistic, PR and business skills, Howard will partner with all directors and myself to realize our growth ambitions and further Ogilvy PR’s leadership position in Hong Kong."
Jones expressed excitement over his new role, saying: "It’s a privilege to be involved in shaping our industry from the front line".
"I’m excited to be taking on this new challenge, to partner with our established and incredibly talented team to take Ogilvy PR to the next level," he added.
