The award recognises unsung heroes in PR who have made a difference in the industry without expecting anything in return.
It was launched by Gorkana in partnership with Ferguson’s former employer Lewis. Ferguson passed away from bowel cancer in July 2012, aged 31.
Playfoot was chosen from a shortlist of five by a panel of judges. He was nominated by Ben Caspersz, Claremont founder and MD, who described Playfoot as a man who "lights up our lives".
Proceeds from the award go to Bowel Cancer UK.
Other PR professionals on the shortlist were: Chloe Couchman, global media relations director, Carlson Wagonlit Travel; Anita Glover, head of corporate comms, MHS Homes; Jessica Huie, founder, JH Public Relations; Chloe Staniforth, account executive, Cream Consultancy; and Louise Thompson, marketing and PR manager, Dalton Park Retail Outlet.
Last year, the award went to Nicola Green, director of comms and reputation at O2. The award event took place on Friday afternoon at O2’s London HQ.
