Kazunori Azeyanagi named new Dentsu PR president

Agency veteran replaces current president Takehiko Chikami

Kazunori Azeyanagi

Dentsu Public Relations has announced that longtime Dentsu executive Kazunori Azeyanagi will be the agency’s new president.

Azeyanagi moves to Dentsu PR from within the wider Dentsu network. He joined the agency in April 1981 and as worked at Dentsu in various capacities.

Most recently he was managing director of the business creation centre at Dentsu advertising. His appointment will be formally approved at the next shareholders and board of directors meetings in March.

He takes over from the outgoing Chikami, who was nominated president in May 2011.

Chikami is stepping down from the role as per Dentsu’s provisions regarding company directors, who must retire at 63. He will continue as a part-time advisor to Dentsu PR.

He will also maintain his position as president of the Public Relations Society of Japan.

Azeyanagi takes over at a time in which Dentsu PR finds itself under much scrutiny in Japan following its reported use of so-called ‘stealth marketing’ strategies.
