Helmanis will cover shopping ideas and lifestyle features as well as homes, interiors and decorating. The pages were previously covered by homes assistant Sarah Havell, who remains in that position.
The section had not had a full-time editor since last year. A spokeswoman for the magazine said: 'There has been a gap for some time. The job did exist but it had been freelance for quite a while.'
Helmanis was previously lifestyle and interior editor of Brides magazine and has contributed to GQ, The Times and The Sunday Telegraph.
Helmanis was hired by editor Eve Cameron, who joined the National Magazine Company title from stablemate Zest last year. The move was part of an unusual initiative that saw Cameron swap jobs with former She editor Alison Pylkkanen.
She magazine was recently relaunched and now carries the tagline 'hearts, minds and shopping'.
