Talago, who was listed in PRWeek UK's Power Book 2016, has been with the agency since leaving Nelson Bostock in 2008, and holds the job title of executive vice-president and general manager, EMEA.

He said on Twitter that he was "looking forward to time as a touchline dad and seeing what comes next", adding "the plan is there's no plan. Taking a few months off to see what might bubble up".

His wife Melissa meanwhile wrote that she would be "thoroughly enjoying having my husband at home".

In a statement, WE said: "Chris Talago will be leaving the agency on 1 May. We wish him well in his future endeavours and look forward to sharing with you what’s next for WE in the next couple of weeks."

In the interim, WE CEO Melissa Waggener Zorkin will be leading the EMEA region.

Before WE – the US-headquartered firm rebranded from Waggener Edstrom in September last year – Talago held an in-house role at tech manufacturer AMD, prior to which he worked for Hill+Knowlton, and served in the British Army.

In his Power Book profile, he said his biggest challenge for 2016 would be "staying ahead in a world of video-first, mobile-first programmatic influence" and "blending the right mix of art and science, influence and data into the campaigns we create".
