One2One completes in-house restructure

Mobile giant One2One has completed a restructure of its in-house comms team.

Director of corporate communications Neil Lovell, who co-ordinated the revamp, admitted that a number of staff had been made redundant. It is understood that up to five people may have lost their jobs.

The new structure sees the scrapping of the comms department's five divisions covering corporate PR, marketing PR, community liaison, knowledge management and internal communication.

These will be replaced with three: internal communications, knowledge management (which primarily works on One2One's intranet) and external communication.

A priority for the in-house team will be to communicate the company's rebranding as T-Mobile later in the year.

One2One is the UK network of T-Mobile International, which has 66 million customers across the world.

Patrick Bower has been appointed to the newly created role of head of external communications.

Bower joins from holiday firm Thomas Cook, where he was head of PR and communications. He previously worked at the Telegraph Group as head of corporate affairs.

External communications was previously handled by corporate PR manager Kevin Perlmutter and community liaison manager Mike Walker. Both have left One2One but were not made redundant, according to Lovell.

Internal communications is headed by Maxine Blumfield, who joined last year.

Last month One2One appointed Weber Shandwick to support all corporate, marketing, community liaison and issues management work after reducing its five-strong roster to one (PRWeek, 1 February 2002).

WS won a five-way pitch to gain the business.
