ITV press chief Tracey O'Connor takes newly created Pumpkin role

Pumpkin PR, the consultancy specialising in the creative and media sectors, has brought back ITV head of press Tracey O'Connor to be its first managing director and been retained by the broadcaster.

Reporting to founder and chief executive Sarah Owen, O’Connor will work to develop the business strategy, growing the account portfolio and leading the team of PR specialists. She begins work on Monday (25 January).

Pumpkin’s clients include Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, M&C Saatchi Worldwide and Havas Media Group, and ITV has now retained Pumpkin to manage its commercial and online PR.

Owen said: "Tracey has a deep understanding of the commercial landscape, exceptional crisis management skills and proven leadership expertise. We are growing fast. So her first task at Pumpkin will be to attract and add to the existing team."

With more than 20 years of PR experience in media and broadcasting, O’Connor has most recently focused on corporate comms with senior roles in ITV Commercial, Online, ITV Studios and ITV Studios Global Entertainment. She led the PR strategy for the recent repositioning of ITV’s on-demand service and latterly managed the corporate comms for ITV's Gala – its annual 'upfronts' event for media buyers.

Before her three years at ITV, Tracey had worked as a director at Pumpkin, having joined from entertainment specialist Premier PR, where she led the TV team. Previously she was deputy head of press at Channel 5, which she joined from ITV.

Pumpkin has a partner office, Sloan Hunt Communications, in New York.
