How did you survive the Great Twitter Outage of 2016?

Well, that's awkward. #twitterdown was the top trending topic in the US late Tuesday morning.

What’s a social media savvy marketer to do with Twitter down? People all over the world were asking themselves that question on Tuesday morning, as the platform struggled to get back to full strength after a sporadic outage.

Twitter was down internationally on Tuesday morning, with TechCrunch reporting that users in the UK, Switzerland, and Bangkok, as well as parts of the US, were unable to use the platform.

All kidding aside, the timing of an embarrassing, extended outage could not have been worse for the company, whose stock has lost nearly a quarter of its value in the past month. Users are also skeptical of its plan to extend the character limit in tweets to as many as 10,000. Advertisers, meanwhile, are unconvinced about its advertising prowess.

The company wasn’t saying much about the outage as of late Tuesday morning. Its developer page included an early morning message noting that "some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution."

The Twitter Support account also acknowledged the issues in a tweet posted before 4 am EST, but had not issued an update as of late morning.
