BOSTON: David Close, MD at MSLGroup in Boston, is retiring from the agency after 22 years there and at its predecessor firms.
He joined the agency more than two decades ago, when it was known as Schwartz Communications, before it was acquired by MSL parent Publicis Groupe in September 2011 and fully integrated into MSLGroup in 2014.
Close said there could have been no more interesting career than "doing PR for startups and innovators — I’ve loved it." He thanked Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz in a LinkedIn post for taking a chance on him in 1994 and offering him an exciting career.
Close has 33 years of experience in PR and communications. Before joining Schwartz, he spent 11 years at Digital Equipment Corporation as communications manager.
"I’ve been fortunate that throughout my career I’ve worked with innovative companies, from startups to bigger innovators. That means I got to work with some of the most creative and crazy people in their industries," he said. "It’s been endlessly fascinating and I don’t think I’ve had one minute in which I was bored."
Close added he will be looking for part-time work after traveling and spending more time cycling.
After Schwartz was acquired by Publicis in September 2011, Close was named one of the co-leaders of the office, known for a time as Schwartz MSL, as MD leading technology. Schwartz promoted him to GM of its Boston area office in June 2010.
