Kivvit hires White House digital guru Thomas Kelley

WASHINGTON: Kivvit has brought on Department of Energy veteran Damian Bednarz as a Washington office director and White House video specialist Thomas Kelley as digital and social advocacy coordinator.

Bednarz was previously chief of staff in the Energy Department’s Office of International Affairs, according to his LinkedIn profile. His other roles at the department include White House liaison and special assistant in the Office of Policy and International Affairs.

Bednarz also served as deputy digital director for the Presidential Inaugural Committee and regional digital director for Obama for America, according to LinkedIn.

Before joining Kivvit, Kelley worked for nearly five years in the Obama administration as part of the Office of Digital Strategy and held a digital-focused role on Obama’s 2008 campaign. He was also a deputy new media director on former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine’s 2009 re-election campaign and a media consultant at Three Point Media, according to LinkedIn.

ASGK Public Strategies and M Public Affairs merged and rebranded as Kivvit in October. The two firms had been jointly owned since 2010.

Eric Sedler and Maggie Moran are leading Kivvit as managing partners. Sedler started ASGK with David Axelrod in 2002 in Chicago and supported Moran’s opening of M Public Affairs in New York and New Jersey. Combined, the firm also has offices in Washington, DC, and Miami and about 60 staffers.

A Kivvit representative could not be immediately reached for comment.
