Facebook most popular social platform to promote SMEs

Facebook is the most commonly used social media tool to promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), according to a recent survey.

The survey, which has been carried out by social media management platform Retortal, is based on responses of more than 3,000 SMEs - two thirds in the UK, and the rest international.

The survey found that 62 per cent of SMEs used social media to promote their business, with Facebook the most popular tool (65 per cent), followed by Twitter (51 per cent), LinkedIn (43 per cent) and Google+ (28 per cent).

Traditional advertising was the second most common way of promoting businesses, cited by a little more than half of respondents, followed by SEO (40 per cent) and pay-per-click ads (19 per cent).

More than half (53 per cent) of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that social media were important to their business, with almost three-quarters expecting an increase in the use of social media for business purposes over the next three years.
