Outdoor and camping equipment retailer REI created a buzz earlier in the week when it announced that it would not open its stores on the busiest - and arguably most important - shopping day of the year: Black Friday.
Not only will its stores not open, REI will not run online Black Friday deals or specials, either.
The company's president and CEO, Jerry Stritzke, recognized that the decision was unorthodox, noting that "any retailer that hears this will be startled by the idea." But he also said the decision was in line with the company's values.
You may want to turn your volume up for this one. #OptOutside https://t.co/hNHCAvkGVi
