Cohn & Wolfe Asia has won a competitive pitch to secure work with AliCloud, the cloud computing arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. New PR chief checks in at Grosvenor House
Nick Barrington-Wells has joined central London's Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel, as director of PR. He previously spent a year as head of luxury and lifestyle at agency Dragon Associates, before which he worked in-house at another London hotel, The Langham. Barrington-Wells told PRWeek he will be kept busy by Grosvenor House's upcoming refurbishment, which begins late next year.
Board promotions at The Communication Group
Chris Martin has been promoted on to the group board of London agency The Communication Group. Martin, the firm's head of public affairs, joined the agency in 2012. In addition, a trio of staff have been promoted to its separate management board, which handles the firm's day-to-day operations: Lara Buckle, Bethan Halls and Anna Martin. All three have been with the firm for two years or more.
Penny Porter joins Shine as director
Penny Porter, previously of event agency Mask, has joined Shine Communications as a director. With a PR, event and experiential background, she joined Shine last week and will be client-facing and work to set up a new event and experiential division at Shine.
W to work on BIRD expansion
BIRD, a chain of London quality fried chicken restaurants, has appointed W’s restaurant division to handle its expansion at two new sites over the next three months. In addition, W will be working to raise the profile of the BIRD brand as a whole.
Pier gets East Anglian charity brief
East Anglia-based charity Ormiston families has appointed Pier to handle its strategic positioning, PR and marketing activity, following a competitive pitch. The agency is charged with growing its profile, promoting fundraising events and co-ordinating a social media awareness campaign.
