Uber hails Newlink Communications for Latin American PR

The firm has been leading strategic comms for Uber in the Latin American market since last month. Its Miami office is leading account work.

MIAMI: Ride-hailing service Uber has hired Newlink Communications as its first AOR for Latin America, following a competitive review.

Newlink, whose Miami office is leading account work, took on the account on September 15. The firm is working on strategic communications for Uber in the Latin American market, it said in a statement.

Representatives from the agency and Uber were not immediately available for comment.

Despite Uber facing pushback from taxi drivers and government officials in Latin America, a number of pop stars, including singer Pitbull, are showing their support for the company through music.

This past June, Newlink America – the arm of Newlink Group that focuses on US Hispanic engagement – hired former República executive Lisette Hoyo as the firm’s first SVP of client services.

A month earlier, Newlink America’s founder and managing partner Jorge Ortega left the firm to rejoin Burson-Marsteller as EVP and MD of the Miami office.
