Cubitt back to Number 10 press office as Cameron's deputy spokesman

Christian Cubitt has returned to the Downing Street press office as the deputy spokesman to Prime Minister David Cameron.

Cubitt spent time as Cameron's deputy spokesman during the previous Coalition government and also previously worked at the Ministry of Justice.

He returned to Number 10 on 7 September after a period as interim head of comms for the Cabinet Office, ahead of a chain of comms moves across Whitehall involving the Cabinet Office, HM Revenue & Customs and other departments.

Cubitt will report to Helen Bower, the PM's official spokeswoman, who took up the role at the start of June after 16 months in the deputy role.

Cameron's counterpart, opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, has also taken on a new spokesperson this month - although only in an interim capacity.
