Portland said the brief includes advising on Lucara’s corporate reputation and handling all comms in the UK and Europe. This will include building the company’s profile among the UK and Europe’s financial media and the analyst community.
Portland was appointed following a non-competitive pitch.
Lucara, which owns and operates the Karowe Mine in Botswana, is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Europe’s Nasdaq OMX and the Botswana Stock Exchange and has a market value of £301m.
Lucara CEO William Lamb said: "We chose Portland because of their expertise in both financial comms and their knowledge of the diamond mining sector. I am looking forward to working with them to develop and implement our comms strategy in the European markets."
The account will be headed by Louise Mason, who became head of Portland’s financial comms division in March. She has a background in PR for the mining and natural resources industries during stints at Buchanan and Walbrook PR.
