Kretzschmar has spent the past seven years at ITV, most recently as senior news correspondent on breakfast show Good Morning Britain. Before this she spent four years as GMTV's New York Correspondent reporting from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

She takes up her new role at Oxfam on 10 September, succeeding Leona Everitt, who left earlier this year, and will work under Oxfam head of media and PR, Harriet Tolputt.

Kretzschmar said: "Oxfam offers one of the most exciting platforms available to do what I do – grabbing the attention of a mass audience with a big story that really matters. In the era of social media, charities can do journalism and create content in the same way that big broadcasters do. That means Oxfam can now communicate directly with the public about its work in a way it never could before. I am excited to have the opportunity to use my storytelling skills in an organisation where campaigns really count."

Joining her team will be former showbusiness writer Elisa Roche, who will take up the role of senior artist liaison manager. Roche will be responsible for Oxfam's work with its ambassadors in the UK. She has previously written for national newspapers and magazines, and most recently was showbusiness and media editor for Express newspapers.

Oxfam's director of comms Jack Lundie said: "We are very lucky to have Cordelia and Elisa joining our high performing media team. They both come from strong journalistic backgrounds and bring a wealth of experience and expertise."
