Severn Trent hires Jonathan Smith from Alstom to head up media

FTSE100 water company Severn Trent has appointed Jonathan Smith as head of media and community relations, starting in September.

Smith is currently engineering company Alstom’s UK head of media relations.

In his new role, Smith will lead a team of six, focusing on building relationships with the media and the 3.7 million customers across Severn Trent’s operational area.

Since 2012, he has led Alstom’s strategic comms for the High Speed Two rail contracts, worked with local key MPs and managed issues for numerous Serious Fraud Office cases. Smith also previously served as senior external affairs manager at E. ON UK for 10 years.

Before entering public relations, he was a journalist for Leicester Mercury, Fast Track and a freelance cricket reporter for The Daily Telegraph.
