MCLEAN, VA: Hilton Worldwide has hired Bill Margaritis, previously FedEx’s communications leader, as its EVP of corporate affairs, effective later this month.

He will be based in the company’s global headquarters in McLean, Virginia.

Margaritis will oversee internal and external communications, government relations, and corporate responsibility globally for the hospitality giant, reporting to Christopher Nassetta, president and CEO of Hilton Worldwide. Margaritis will also serve as a member of the company’s executive committee.

Margaritis previously served as SVP of global communications and investor relations at FedEx for 15 years. He left the role at the end of 2012 after taking a buyout package. Patrick Fitzgerald replaced him as the top comms official at FedEx with the title of SVP of integrated marketing and communications as the company merged the two functions.

Margaritis has also worked as VP of PR and marketing communications for Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia at Bechtel and special assistant for intergovernmental affairs in the Commerce Department during the Reagan Administration.
