Nurha Hindi has built her career on the word trust. Currently, she heads up Hill+Knowlton Strategies’ West Coast health practice, where her new-business acumen led to consistent annual account growth of 50%.
As the third staff hire for H+K’s Los Angeles office in 2007, her 15 years of healthcare communications experience helped her establish and diversify the firm’s Western health portfolio, moving it from nearly 100% biotech to representing the full healthcare spectrum.
Hindi plays a lead role for marquee healthcare clients including Amgen, Roche Diagnostics, UCLA Health, InnovAge, and Alcon, among others. Her healthcare expertise combined with a "deep understanding of cultural and gender nuances" ensures her counsel resonates with client and consumer alike, explains Monica Bouldin, GM of Southern California for H+K, who also worked with Hindi at Ruder Finn.
Bouldin remembers Hindi as a young assistant account executive with an ability to smartly assess a situation and then jump in to lead and excel, such as a video shoot with Peter Falk, otherwise known as Columbo. She produced the video with little direction and received fabulous coverage along with client adoration, despite it being a last-minute request.
Prior to Hill+Knowlton, Hindi worked at Amgen in its product communications department, where she served as a company spokesperson, excelled at building trust with internal colleagues, and helped launch a number of blockbuster products, including Enbrel to treat psoriasis.
"I have worked with Nurha since she began her career as a junior staffer [at Ruder Finn]," adds Bouldin. "From the beginning, she was driven, motivated, and passionate. She earned my trust quickly. Nurha trusts her abilities and, in turn, her colleagues and clients trust her."
"I had the opportunity to work with her again at H+K and the young AAE had grown into a healthcare powerhouse," continues Bouldin, "counseling executives at leading and emerging healthcare companies, launching products, and commanding an understanding of the agency business development process with skills one would more likely find in a professional with much more experience."
Hindi keeps her skills sharp by taking part in PRSA and Southern California Biomedical Association events.
- She led an award-winning osteoporosis awareness campaign, Know My Bones, while at Amgen
- Hindi directed media for the Middle East Institute during the second Gulf War in Iraq as a young PR pro at Ruder Finn
- One of six daughters, she was the first woman in her family to attend college and earn a BA degree
