Pearson to sell Financial Times to 'global digital news firm', says Reuters

Pearson is to announce that it has sold the Financial Times to a "global digital news company", Reuters has reported this morning.

Reuters published this tweet at 10.44am on Thursday:

This has led to speculation about the identity of the buyer:

On Monday, Bloomberg reported that Pearson was exploring a sale of the Financial Times after receiving interest from potential buyers, according to what it called "people familiar with the matter".

The value of the sale could reach as much as £1bn, according to Bloomberg, which said possible bidders had been sounded out.

PRWeek contacted Pearson but received no reply at the time of publication.

Update - Later on Thursday morning, Pearson posted the following statement on its website: "Pearson notes recent press speculation and confirms that it is in advanced discussions regarding the potential disposal of FT Group although there is no certainty that the discussions will lead to a transaction. A further announcement will be made if and when appropriate."
