Smith will take up his new role in September.

A former newspaper journalist, Smith joined the BBC in 2002, working across a number of editorial roles including producer to the BBC’s sports editor on major events such as the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Most recently he worked as a senior producer on the BBC’s general election coverage.

Smith's appointment follows that of Seb Royce, who is set to join Freuds next month as chief creative officer. Royce joins from video tech company Rockabox, having previously spent 13 years at Isobar.
