SAN FRANCISCO: Reddit community manager Kristine Fasnacht, known to network’s aficionados via the username "krispykrackers," is taking on the duties of recently ousted director of talent Victoria Taylor.
Fasnacht will have a different title, moderator advocate, but she will manage Reddit’s widely popular Ask Me Anything Q&A sessions, which were previously led by Taylor, according to Abernathy MacGregor EVP Heather Wilson on behalf of Reddit’s press office.
Wilson added that Fasnacht’s role will "go beyond just managing the AMAs" and will include acting as a liaison for all moderators.
Taylor, who shifted from director of communications to director of talent several months ago, joined Reddit two years ago. The comms director role is still open.
Taylor was reportedly fired late last week, resulting in a major backlash by Reddit users over the weekend, including the shutdown of more than 250 subreddits. More than 100,000 people signed a petition this weekend calling for Reddit interim CEO Ellen Pao to step down.
The reason why Reddit dismissed Taylor is a mystery, as the organization has not disclosed any further details about the matter. Pao told Time on Friday that it did not handle the decision well and apologized for the abruptness of the news.
Pao added that Reddit is working to improve tools for its moderators, and she squashed rumors about commercializing the AMAs.
Pao posted a statement on Monday afternoon bluntly saying, "We screwed up. Not just on July 2, but also over the past several years."
"We haven’t communicated well, and we have surprised moderators and the community with big changes," she said. "We have apologized and made promises to you, the moderators and the community, over many years, but time and again, we haven’t delivered on them."
Taylor was not immediately available for comment. Last year, Taylor was cited on PRWeek’s Innovation 50 list.
Fasnacht has served in her most recent role at Reddit since March 2014, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that, she was a manager of client relations for more than three years.
This story was updated on July 6 with more information from Pao's statement.
