British Council poaches BBC's internal comms head

The British Council has appointed Sao Bui-Van, formerly acting director of internal comms and engagement at the BBC, as director of comms.

Bui-Van is tasked with overseeing the internal and external comms strategy, crisis and reputation management, events and media relations.

With a career spanning 20 years, Bui-Van has held a number of senior comms positions. Most recently he was acting director of internal comms and engagement at the BBC. He also had stints as head of comms at BBC North and was head of the BBC press office during the Hutton and Pollard inquiries.

Before working at the BBC, he was director of media and PR at the English National Opera.

Bui-Van takes over from Mark Herbert who has been appointed head of school at the British Council, after eight years in the role.

The British Council works with a variety of professionals such as teachers and policy makers in more than 100 countries to teach young people English, share the arts and deliver education and society programmes.
