Hodgson will take up the post at the end of the month and report to director of communications Andrew Brown. His appointment is part of a restructure of the comms team and follows the recent hire of Chris Woods, current head of digital at public affairs agency Hanover, who will join Drax in the same role.
As well as running the press office and managing a number of external agencies, Hodgson's brief is to help the energy business tell its story and explain the benefits of sustainable biomass for electricity and heat.
Hodgson has spent the past two years as a special adviser at DECC, advising the secretary of state and deputy prime minister on external communications, 'green issues' and political briefing. Prior to DECC he was an associate director at Fishburn.
Hodgson said: "The energy sector is going through a period of significant change and Drax is playing a key role from sourcing sustainable biomass, to generating and supplying electricity and heat in the UK.
"It's an exciting time to be working in this sector and I can't wait to get started with the Drax comms team to help them tell their story."
