The redundancies have been made across the London business, including staff at all levels.

Bell Pottinger CEO James Henderson said the move was part of a natural streamlining and restructuring process to ensure efficiency.

Earlier this week David Wilson, group managing director of Bell Pottinger and chairman of its consumer practice, stood down after 15 years.

Meanwhile the firm has hired Liz Morley, vice-chairman at Maitland, as a partner in its 60-strong financial practice. Morley will start in her new role in August and work with chairman John Sunnucks and managing director Gavin Davis, to grow the practice.

Before Maitland, Morley was director at Gavin Anderson and head of corporate comms at GKN.

Henderson said: "Liz’s strong investor relations experience will further strengthen our integrated offering of capital markets, political and digital advice. She joins us at an exciting time in the ongoing development of Bell Pottinger."
