NEW YORK: Burson-Marsteller has promoted Ryan Barr from senior director of the US corporate and financial practice to MD of financial communications.
Barr, who joined Burson in 2013, took on the role last month and continues to report to Alan Sexton, chair of the US corporate and financial practice. No one was previously heading the specialty group.
One of Barr’s focus areas is "looking at how companies are perceived and evaluating the gap between their corporate narratives and what people are hearing," he explained.
Burson has also promoted Kate Lipsitz to MD and head of operations for the US corporate and financial practice, a newly created role. She is focusing on talent, new business, and financial management.
Barr works with Burson’s Bank of America client on reputation management and on its credit card PR program, according to his LinkedIn profile. Throughout his time at the WPP agency, he’s also served clients including AIG, Alibaba, Atari, HP, Motorola, and Synergy Pharmaceuticals.
Bank of America shifted its PR business from Emanate, Barr’s previous employer, to Burson in 2013. Emanate hired Barr in 2012 to serve as VP on the Bank of America account.
Prior to Emanate, Barr was MD at The IGB Group, and before that he served as SVP and corporate communications director at Hill & Knowlton.
