SACRAMENTO: Visit California is seeking a global social media agency partner for an annual contract worth $300,000.

The nonprofit, which works with California’s division of tourism, is looking for a firm to offer "social media community management, as well as social listening and monitoring services that support Visit California’s social media program," according to RFP documents released last week.

Firms participating in the review must be able to globally support 11 countries and their languages. They "must have quality resources in each country that have the capacity to learn and understand the California brand," per the documents.

The countries include the US, Canada, UK, China, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Japan, France, and Korea, according to the RFP. Agencies must also be able to handle specific community and content management, analytics, research, and reporting.

Firms in the review should be able to work across Facebook, Instagram, Sina Weibo, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, and "other channels as determined by Visit California," the documents state.

A separate "special project" listed in the RFP requires bidders to devise a service level agreement and strategy related to Visit California’s Dream Big Dividend Plan. The budget for the project is on top of the estimated $300,000 contract, and is up to the bidder. The document states that the project offers firms an "opportunity to demonstrate [their] creativity and expert insights."

The contract is expected to run from around September 1 of this year through June 30, 2016, with two annual options to renew for a total of three years. The tourism group plans to initially fund the contract up to $300,000 each year, "dependent on an overall Visit California budget of $100 million, according to the document.

California travel and tourism is a $117 billion industry, the RFP adds.

Proposals are due July 2. A Visit California representative confirmed the contract is new and no incumbent agency is working on the account.

In February, Visit California released an RFP seeking domestic PR services. Additional information regarding this review was not immediately available.
