Geometry PR picks up Volkswagen Malaysia

PR arm of WPP's activation agency Geometry Global has its work cut out for it with managing Volkswagen's shaky after-sales service reputation in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR - Volkswagen Group Malaysia has hired Geometry Global Public Relations to handle its PR account in the market following a pitch.

Geometry takes over from incumbent agency FleishmanHillard and will be responsible for VW's communication, public reputation, perception and critical stakeholder issues. 

VW Malaysia has had a reputationally rocky time in Malaysia. In March 2014, disgruntled owners of its vehicles were driven to organise a protest rally outside its Malaysian headquarters. The car owners were unhappy about brand's after-sales service and had started to question the safety of its vehicles. While VW launched a technical service centre promising swifter turnaround times earlier this month, the brand and its new agency will have their work cut out for them to repair the reputational damage it's suffered.
