KUCHING - The Public Relations Profession Bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament next year, reports Malaysian newswire Bernama.

According to Datuk Ibraham Abdul Rahman, the director-general of the information department, who is also president of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia, it's important for the bill to be passed so PR can be recognized as a professional career.

Ibrahim added that PR practitioners need to be "more professional in discharging their duties" in light of the availability of social media, Bernama reported.

He urged young professionals to equip themselves with sufficient knowledge so as to be competent in meeting new and challenging benchmarks in the "fast lane of the new age information communication technology."
