Founded 10 years ago by Lucy and Camilla d’Abo, Dabo & Co employs more than 60 members of staff and has a client roster that includes Unilever, BMW, DHL, Michelin, Quantas, and Jumeirah Restaurants.
Dabo & Co, which operates across 15 countries from Morocco in the west to Pakistan in the east, will be combined with Edelman’s existing UAE business, which currently employs around 85 people at offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Edelman said: "In addition to providing economies of scale, the new operation will encompass 150 employees with a broad range of expertise from corporate to marketing to digital. The agency will offer creative, planning, research and event management capabilities across the region."
Edelman debuted in the region in 2008 with its opening in Abu Dhabi and said Edelman UAE is among its fastest growing operations worldwide.
Robert Holdheim, CEO of South Asia, Middle East & Africa at Edelman, said: "This is a classic partnership where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
"Edelman’s leading position as a full service agency complements Dabo & Co's creativity, excellent reputation in consumer communications and strength in events and experiential marketing. Add Edelman's regional and global strength and you have a combination that we feel will be hard to beat."
Lucy D’Abo said: "We believe this acquisition will unite two of the leading players in the market to create a regional powerhouse.
"It will provide enormous opportunities to leverage the strength of the Edelman network and intellectual capital, combined with our award-winning creativity and commitment to exceptional levels of client servicing."
The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
Dabo & Co is Edelman’s first major acquisition in 2015. Last year the group bought France's largest PR firm Elan, Swedish creative agency Deportivo, and Devon Group, a public affairs consultancy based in Canada.
