PayPal seeks corporate comms director as it separates from eBay

PayPal recently appointed H+K veteran Amanda Groty as senior director of communications for EMEA.

SAN JOSE, CA: PayPal is searching for a senior director of corporate communications as it prepares to split from eBay later this year.

The new hire will report to Christina Smedley, who will continue in her role as VP of global brand and communications, said PayPal global communications director Martha Cass via email.

PRWeek reported last week that Amanda Groty will join PayPal on May 1 as senior director of communications for EMEA, following 12 years at Hill+Knowlton Strategies.

After opposing the idea for months, eBay decided last fall to spin off PayPal into a separate publicly traded business. EBay said at the time that the separation would allow the companies to capitalize on respective growth opportunities.

Dan Schulman, former president of American Express’ Enterprise Growth Group, will serve as president and CEO of the standalone PayPal.

There has been a trend of corporate splits in the past year. Last October, Symantec said it plans to split into two units, and HP also announced its intentions to divide itself into two companies.

In addition, Tribune Publishing completed its spinoff from parent Tribune Media in August 2014.
