McConnell joined Flybe in April last year having spent almost six years as head of UK corporate and public affairs at easyJet.

McConnell was brought in as one of several senior hires to help turn the company around following difficult trading years.

Shortly after his arrival McConnell held a review of Flybe's corporate and financial PR account, which had been held by Instinctif Partners for over a decade. Maitland now holds the account.

Paul Simmons, chief commercial officer at Flybe, said: "Andrew McConnell has held the position of director of communications and public affairs since April 2014. Andrew has been a loyal, conscientious, determined and positive team member during his period of employment at Flybe. We would like to thank Andrew for his hard work over the past 12 months and we wish him the best for the future."

Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline, released its trading update yesterday with the group breaking even for the year end. The carrier has seen a rise in UK passenger revenues and increased capacity following the launch of new routes this summer.
