Adamson is European policy adviser at the law firm Covington & Burling LLP and has held a variety of roles in EU affairs over the past 30 years.

He will act as part of the King’s College ‘Policy Circle’ – a network of leaders who help to forge stronger relationships between academia and the policy world.

In particular, he will be involved in the New Options for Europe project, which will examine policy issues and encourage public and political debate on a reformed Europe.

Adamson said: "With Europe facing such key issues, ranging from the economy to security, there is no better time to be part of the Policy Institute and be closely involved in translating the importance of academic research into real world impact."

Adamson is currently chairman of Forum Europe, as well as editor-in-chief and founding publisher of E!Sharp, an online magazine dedicated to covering the European Union.

He is also a member of Rand Europe Council of Advisors and is on the advisory boards of YouGov-Cambridge and the Washington European Society.

He is a trustee of the Citizenship Foundation, a patron of the University Association of Contemporary European Studies and an academician of the UK Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Jonathan Grant, director of the Policy Institute at King’s, said that Adamson's wide-ranging experience and knowledge would be an asset to the institute.
