NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ: Craig Rothenberg, Johnson & Johnson’s VP of corporate communication, is retiring in May after being with the healthcare company for 20 years.
Rothenberg, who reports to J&J CCO Maggie FitzPatrick, is responsible for global employee and executive comms. He oversees a team of roughly 12 staffers.
"I have nothing but good things to say about the people and the mission that Johnson & Johnson is on," said Rothenberg. "My intention is to pursue new opportunities and adventures on the outside."
J&J has not yet announced if Rothenberg will be directly replaced or if there will be a restructure of his role and responsibilities, said Amy Jo Meyer, J&J's director of corporate media relations.
Rothenberg joined J&J in 1995 as VP of pharmaceutical communications. In October 2008, he stepped into his current role as part of a restructure of the company’s public affairs and corporate communications leadership.
Prior to J&J, he served as director of public and professional relations for Organon Pharmaceuticals, which has since been acquired by Merck.
Earlier in his career, Rothenberg was VP and client service manager for Burson-Marsteller, as well as an executive director for the American Cancer Society, according to his LinkedIn profile.
His retirement comes after Johnson & Johnson’s global communications structure was centralized in January under FitzPatrick.
When asked if J&J’s agency relationships will be evaluated in relation to the in-house comms changes, J&J’s VP of media relations Ernie Knewitz said at the time that FitzPatrick wants to make sure its 150 agency partners are aligned with the company’s vision and have the right capabilities to complement its resources internally.
